Summer House

On August the 30th Andy and Dug went down to the borders to dismantle and collect a Summer House from New Horizons Boarders. After finding it! We were met by David the almost resident gardener. We managed to strip the porches and roof section with the help of Oli and Mark who stopped by on their way to Yorkshire. We eventually  got them loaded in to the truck, arriving back in Fife for eleven o’clock at night.

On the 31st after unloading Andy traveled down again having arranged to meet up with Lisa and her helpers from New Horizons Boarders.  Alan and Billy. what we expected to be an easy shift somehow turned in to a massive effort when we realised the shear weight of the decking and floor sections. Getting them in to the tuck involved unloading it again and starting from scratch! After much grunting and groaning rescuing of large toads and with Lisa’s excellent packing suggestions we got it all in the truck. Just!

Back in Fife for 20.00 the unloading began Sam, Tom, and Adam in toe we got it all stacked in a not so tidy heap in the driveway.

Big Pond Dip

Last month we had parents and children from the local community come to the Project to participate in work for the John Muir trust to quote Kistry who organised it.

They found lots of beasties-alderfly larvae, dragonfly larvae, damselfly and mayfly larvae, water beetles, water snails, a freshwater shrimp and lots of ‘wigglies’.  We also saw a couple of frogs, or possibly one frog and one toad.

Overall, the pond scored 52 out of a possible 60 on the pond conservation’s Big Pond Dip survey-’brilliant pond.

Getting there

By Public transport – As I don’t know where you are coming from please use the Traveline Scotland website www.travelinescotland.com

The closest train station is Ladybank which has bus links to Letham. Please make sure you go to Letham in Fife, not Letham in Perth or the Letham in Angus!

Once you arrive in Letham get yourself to the bus stop at the top of the hill (there’s only 1 and your bus may stop here.) Follow the main road round a 90 degree bend to the left. This is Monimail Rd. Walk along here for 5-10 minutes, passing the church on your left.

When you see a small triangular green take the drive on your left marked North Lodge.

Turn immediately right between the trees  into a cobbled car park.

This is Monimail Tower Project. There will be a blackboard showing you the way.

By Car – Find Letham in fife on a map and follow the directions above.
